Judgify Product Updates in December
Judgify had a fruitful end of the year and managed to produce and release a range of useful features for awards management and the judging process. Here’s a list of the top major season updates:
Video Transcoding
Judgify has released another feature called Video Transcoding. It allows users to convert any videos uploaded to Judgify to an .mp4 format via transcoder settings. As you may already know, videos may be uploaded to the system by contest entrants in various formats, such as .avi and .mov. The Video Transcoding service is designed to convert all formats into a single .mp4 format.
The main objective of transcoding is to make the videos playable in the browser without needing any additional software or plugins.
The main reason for choosing to convert to an .mp4 format is the fact that it is more browser friendly and is adjusted to be played on the majority of mobile devices.
Since the process takes a great deal of server resources and is time consuming, it should not be performed frequently during the event. It should be a onetime process. That is why this transcoding service will be available on demand. The development team will perform the transcoding after a client makes a request with the support team. Additionally, transcoding of videos can be performed only after the event is closed and all submissions are already shortlisted for judging.

How Judgify users benefit
Judge:
The judges have priority and gain more benefits from the transcoding services in the system. They don’t need additional software or plugins to play the videos and also save judging time. The main purpose is to provide easier judging.
Event entrant:
The customers get a more user-friendly feature for working with their Internet browsers on mobile devices to speed up the processing time and shorten the entry submission.
Automatic Thumbnail Generation feature
The automatic thumbnail generation feature is available for all events and event payment plans. This is the first automatic feature at Judgify that will generate thumbnail images.
Thumbnail images are generated as they are uploaded to the system by entrants.
The generated thumbnail images will then help to greatly improve the performance of the system.
How Judgify users benefit
Event organiser:
When an event organiser views the detailed submission, the system loads the thumbnails rather than full pictures. That will speed up the process and is also more convenient for the user.
Event entrant:
Entrants can save a lot of time uploading the images or other visual materials for the event.
Judge:
It is the judge who will most greatly benefit from this feature because, as a judge, you need to go through several submissions and judge them thoroughly. Judges review the uploaded images of videos easily by looking at the previews. There is no need to open each file separately to check it. With thumbnail generation, the page loading time is faster, and judges don’t need to waste any time. It encourages them to judge more effectively and is the main feature that will bring more users to our system.
File Download All feature
This feature allows a user to download all the files from the event.You will get a link to download files that are generated after the downloading process is completed, which is both convenient and time saving. This new feature is available on demand and is not restricted to any plans, but there is an extra fee involved. This is an automated process using Lambda (AWS serverless feature), which allows developers to build a variety of real-time serverless data processing systems.
How Judgify users benefit
Event organiser:
The organisers are able to collect all the event files and store them on their own server in a more compact way. However, event organizers cannot simply click on the ‘download a file’ button without paying. This is where an extra fee is involved. Although it is still in beta launch, the service is available on demand. Event organisers can request to download all the files from a particular event by contacting the support team
Judge:
For judges, the feature saves time and speeds up the judging process, which means that they can work smoothly and more effectively. The feature is also aimed at simplifying the process in order to encourage them to judge more effectively.
Pro Plan subscription invoices status
A feature showing the “Pro” plan subscription invoices status was also deliberately developed. Our Pro Plan users will be able to get their Pro Plan subscription invoice automatically by upgrading their Basic account to a Pro account.
As soon as the user clicks on the “Upgrade” button (shown in the screenshot below), the invoice asking for 500 USD is generated. Once the invoice is generated, it is sent via email requesting the payment. The email has a link for the client to click and make a payment.
Invoices receive a “pending” status when the user tries to upgrade the events plan to “Pro” but hasn’t finished it yet. The invoice status becomes “paid” when the payment of 500 USD is made.
